Project Description:

Connected TV platforms offer enormous potential for attractive, bandwidth-intensive services. High-resolution media streams serving a multitude of connected and synchronized devices form a perfect playground for a thriving digital ecosystem. The value of these services results from the merging of both linear and on-demand content delivery; anybody can profit from the possibilities of the broadband connection in retrieving extra content to the screen related to the broadcast or served on the basis of (automated) personal choice from online libraries. However the amount of bandwidth needed, as these services are made available to the massive audience currently watching linear television channels, will be immense. TV-Ring attempts to explore and develop this potential as well as look for ways to overcome possible difficulties.

In the TVRing project CUO | Social Spaces of KU Leuven / iMinds, will perform user research to establish both professional and end user requirements for the Dutch pilot at the start of the project. We will also be heavily involved in the the creation and evaluation of the prototypes that will be developed on the basis of these requirements. Furthermore we will make a strong contribution in dissemination focussing mainly on conference and journal papers as well as workshops and courses.
