Laura Braspenning

Laura Braspenning [°1980] graduated at the applied arts department at the Sandberg Institute in 2004 with various installations, jewellery and products in which rituals, history and everyday life are of equal significance. She is active with projects for specific target groups, such as the realisation of a private residential complex, called Foe Ooi Leeuw, for Chinese elderly citizens. She is involved as a designer in order to incorporate the wishes and expectations of the future residents into the house and to develop a methodology to promote social cohesion among the inhabitants as well as between the home and the neighborhood (www.folhuisservies.wordpress.com).

From 2005 to 2008, she was coordinator of art and culture for a care centre in Eindhoven. In 2008-2009, in addition to her work as designer she completed the Master Cultural Management at the University of Antwerp, with a thesis about the cultural participation policy of the cultural actors in Antwerp, with respect to various disadvantaged groups in society. Subsequently, she worked as a researcher at the University of Antwerp and coordinator of community school projects for young people in secondary education. Since 2010, Laura is lecture in Research Methodology at the MAD-faculty and works simultaneously as researcher in the research group ArtIObject&Design, now part of Social Spaces.
